Baru Beach
Baru Beach is a two-mile stretch of cocoa sand, scattered driftwood and powerful surf north of Dominical. The lonely shore, which is part of Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge, has a wild and raw feel about it and is not safe for swimming due to strong rip currents.
read more closeThe beach is part of a protected nesting area where Olive Ridley and hawksbill turtles lay their eggs from July through October. After the sun sets, guards from Hacienda Baru's turtle hatchery walk the beach looking for turtle eggs to take back to the nursery where they'll be protected until they hatch.
