If three-mile flat beach and incredible surf waves had a lovechild, it would be named Playa Guiones. Intermediate-to-advanced surfers swarm to the impressive knee-high-to-overhead breaks, best from November to May. Guiones swells crash moderately out in the deep waters, amplified by coral reef breaks to the south and volcanic rocks to the north.

Guiones' mid tide is best for newbies, and the more advanced big-boys take to the swells during high tide. Surf lessons with local guides/surf schools range from $20-$100 (and even more), with plenty of lesson packages available.
More than just a surf spot, horseback riders, families with kids, joggers and yogis also frequent Playa Guiones. The trendy town center in Guiones extends throughout four main roads each running perpendicular to the shore. Restaurants and nightlife cater to the surfer budget, with huge portions of Italian, international and local seafood with a range of $6-$12.
